Comments & Quotes

"Duff contributes a nasty, distorted riff on “Big Machine”." (Guitar World's Bass Guitar, May 2004)

"'Big Machine' gives Sorum the space he’s been craving." (Drum Magazine, April 2004)

Duff: ""We gave “Big Machine” to Scott; he chopped the shit out of it in Pro Tools and gave us this thing that was like – whoa! Then we played it like he’d rearranged it, and it totally made sense" (Guitar World's Bass Guitar, June/July 2004)

Duff: "The track Big Machine has this tremendous drum and bass groove. We just got into rehearsal and I started playing the intro and Matt starts doing his thing, Slash starts playing and one thing led to another and we had kind of this monstrous thing. We gave it to Scott and he put it through ProTools and chopped the shit out of it and all of a sudden it's this whole different song. But to him this is how it made sense and now its one of my favourite songs on the record. And Matt used a couple different drum sets on that song so it wasn't a full take [live performance]. So we got a little bit more creative on that one." (Total Guitar Bass Special, April 2004)

"‘Big Machine’, with a verse hinting at Alice In Chains’ menace and an irreverent chorus recalling 70's titans Marc Bolan and The Sweet." (Metal Hammer, April 2004)

Lyrics

Big Machine

I don't know
Because she says so
He's a faggot boy
The TV says so
He's a junkie piece of shit because he says so

All that first-class jet set brings me down, down, down
All that first-class drug shit brings me down, down, down

It's a big machine, it's a big machine
We're all slaves to a big machine
It's a big machine, it's a big machine
We're all slaves to a big machine
All tied up to a big machine
I got houses
Got cars
I got a wife
I got kids
Got money in the bank

Get away without borders
I'm a slave, New World Order
I guess I chose to be
I guess I chose to be
I guess I chose to be
I guess I chose to be

Hope I teach my son how to be a man
Now before he hits 35
Comic book lives don't really have any real life do they now
