Comments & Quotes

Slash: "There's a song called 'Sucker Train Blues' where all the rhythms are done on a '56 Tele." (Total Guitar, April 2004)

"Weiland clearly struggles to keep up ("Sucker Train Blues"), but he finds his groove over the brash guitars and brawny drums." (Maxim Magazine, May 2004)

"The not entirely-unmelodic chorus of ‘Sucker Train Blues’ juxtaposes a lingering chorus with staccato verses, crafting an aural speed chase and atmospheric outro that could, should last longer." (Rock Feedback, April 2004)

"Songs like the opener, “Sucker Train Blues” announce the band’s arrival with a vengeance, featuring ripping Slash guitar tracks and strong playing by Sorum, loaded with a barrage of fast fills." (Drum Magazine, April 2004)

Slash: "On the intro to "Sucker Train Blues" there's some guitar licks that are his {Kushner's}. That was the very last new song that we wrote for the album." (LiveDaily, April 2004)

Slash: "'Sucker Train Blues' has a one-take whammy bar solo." (Total Guitar, April 2004)

"'Contraband' kicks off with muscle-bound promise on the 'Mr Brownstone' vibed opener 'Suckertrain Blues' suggesting fire in the belly and gas in the tank." (Metal Hammer, April 2004)

Blabbermouth.net reported on January 20, 2004 that a song called 'Trainsucker Blues' was one that would be included on the album. Recent release info from French cd order databases suggests that this song was originally slated as a single in Europe, but was replaced by Slither eventually. The song title is reported as 'Sucker Train Blues', and not 'Trainsucker Blues.'

Lyrics

Sucker Train Blues

Hands are shakin got your finger on the trigger
Jesus ain't complainin gonna figure it out
Somebody raped my tapeworm abortion
Come on motherfuckers and deliver the cow

Brain and body melting while there's roaches multiplying
It's the alien infection it's the coming of Christ
All these sentimental halos and these consequential angels
When I'm runnin with the devil don't deliver the fight

Don't look at me now
Fell too fast your wings won't hold
Don't look at me now
Fell too fast your wings won't hold

Yeah and when I want to
Yeah I will find you
Yeah and when I want to
Yeah I will blind you

Brains are frying while the kings and queens are dying
Satan won the race and the miracle mile
Somebody raped my tapeworm abortion
Come on mothertuckers and deliver the cow
It's all over me now
Let me go, let me go, let me go
What's come over me now
Let me go, let me go, let me go
It's all over me now
Let me go, let me go, let me go
What's come over me now

Johnny sat down beside the old oak tree
Cut off his hand what did he see
All of the animals are dead
The rats have crawled through his house and out through their head
One of them ate a hole in the sky
To believe this would be a fate worse than dying
